When three becomes four, it’s a beautiful thing. Portia wanted to have us be there in the early days to document their family’s evolution and we happily worked it out with them, the newborn stage escapes so quickly. We arrived the late morning just a few days into 2016, and just a week-ish after the sweet Baby M was welcomed into this family by her big brother, mother and father.
It was a cold and dreary January day, just to be expected in Seattle. As we walked into their beautiful, cozy, artistic and well curated home, we were warmed by the love that was constantly stirring. We listened to the stories about how the heart only expands when another human enters the family unit, the differences between personalities only a few days in, and the ability to move forward with the postpartum healing when also chasing after a toddler, and the difference that having astounding familiar support can have in the early days. We were able to win the sweet and soft-spoken brother over with gorgeous pastries, pajama encouragement, and a sincere love for all things trains and rockets. And so the day carried on playing with this family, with our lenses focused on their “new normal”.
Portia and Blair, we are so thankful that we could document the ages and stages of this precious time in your lives; from the sillies with Big Brother A to the sweet mellow sighs of Baby M. . . punctuated with a visit from Grandma and Grandpa and the biggest, fluffiest snowflakes before the greatly anticipated Seahawks game. Thank you so much for having us, it was an absolute joy.
