First, we are SO happy to be able to write this blog post about Stephanie and Alan’s wedding day. We remember way back when. . . as we had our initial (er, extensive) consultation with them and learned about their visions for their day: rainbows, Power Rangers, Tea Ceremony, Piñatas for bigs and littles (read: candy and wine coupons). We were so excited to be declared as their photographers!
They got married on a perfect Autumn overcast Seattle afternoon at the DAR Rainier Chapter House in Capitol Hill. The Bride’s folk got ready in a scenic Suite overlooking Elliot Bay at Courtyard Marriott in Pioneer Square, with many of the bridal folks being of the Sephora decent, hair being done by Amelia from VAIN, the preparation time was not just flawless and exquisite, but fun and colorful too. The Groom’s folk got ready at Alan’s apartment before heading to Pioneer Square to meet up with Stephanie and to do their thing. Enough of our excitement… here is their story, in their collective words accompanied by our collective images:
” . . .We first met when Stephanie, who moved from Las Cruces New Mexico, was working at an internship at the Fred Hutch Cancer Research Center. As a part time job she picked up a side job at the local movie theater: The Regal Meridian 16. Alan happened to also work there at the time. Their first interaction goes as follows.
“Hey wassup ‘new girl’”
“I have a name, you know, my name is stephanie.” she said in an upset tone. “I’ll have you know, I have a degree and the least you can do is call me by my name.”
“that’s nice new girl”
….we were on a date, and the moment I (Alan) knew is when we were visiting the EMP’s science fiction museum and there was a revelation on how big of a geek Stephanie was, and I decided at that moment she was a keeper….Well, as soon as I got a thumbs up for a Disney World vacation, I began plotting my engagement…”
And so the story goes.
They were thrilled to have the elegant and classic decor of the DAR Rainier Chapter House compliment their the Rainbow Cake “…. why pick one or two colors, when you can be festive and pick ALL the colors?” and Power Ranger theme. We also loved their ability to create a harmonic fusion of cultures… from the traditional Chinese Tea Ceremony after the vows were exchanged, and during the cocktail hour and Photo Booth time. Their delicious meal was catered by Joanie’s as they were able to pull of a favorite Creole meal that satisfied the masses and provided them with the energy for the rest of the night. DJ Jeff from SG Mobile did an amazing job at keeping the dance floor bumping whilst maintaining public safety during the piñata /aluminum bat-swinging extravaganza. Total talent.
Cheers to Alan and Stephanie – thank you for inviting us to celebrate with you!
